Sophia Foundation for Children has organised the following events, both to provide information and to gather resources to fund the foundation’s work in Africa.
MARCH 2009
Presentation of the book «Just Care – Africa» with photographs by Marina Shacola and Andreas Vasiliou to the sponsors and friends of the Foundation at the Headquarters of the Bank of Cyprus in Nicosia. The photographs illustrate the living conditions of the children in various parts of Africa. Andreas Vasiliou’s documentary with the same subject was also shown.

APRIL 2009
Photography exhibition and showing of the documentary «Just Care» by Marina Shacola and Andreas Vasiliou. The event took place at the Budapest Municipality following an invitation by the Mayor Mr Gabor Demsky.

SEPTEMBER 2009
Photography exhibition and showing of the documentary «Just Care» at the European Parliament in Brussels following an invitation by the EU Health Commissioner, Ms Androulla Vasiliou.

OCTOBER 2009
- Presentation of the poetry collection of Marios Taramides entitled Moments (poems and photographs of his trips abroad) at ‘FRESH' in Nicosia. The net profits from the sale of the book went towards the restoration of the Makarios Orphanage.
- Photography exhibition and showing of the documentary «Just Care» at the Omicron Gallery and bazaar of African art. The exhibition was opened by the President of the Republic Mr Demetris Christofias and all profits from the sale of the photographs and objects went towards the restoration of the Makarios Orphanage in Kenya.
- Photography exhibition, showing of the documentary «Just Care» and presentation of the activities of the «Sophia Foundation for Children» at Nicosia University.

NOVEMBER 2009
Concert with the group Trimitonio and photography exhibition «Just Care» by Marina Shacola and Andreas Vasiliou organised by Terpsichoria Music Association of Cyprus University. All income went towards the restoration of the Makarios Orphanage.

DECEMBER 2009
- Festival and Bazaar of Love (13/12/2009) organised by Nicosia University. All income went towards the restoration of the Makarios Orphanage.
- Christmas Bazaar at Shacolas «The Mall of Cyprus» Nicosia (15/12/09 – 09/01/2010). Sale of calendars and handmade jewellery made by children of Kibera slum. All income went towards the restoration of the Makarios Orphanage.

JANUARY 2010
On 5 January 2010 theatro ENA gave a charity performance of Tennessee Williams’s play A Streetcar Named Desire. All income went towards the restoration of the Makarios Orphanage.

APRIL 2010
Photography exhibition by Demetris Vattis entitled "Fashion Shoots" at the Omicron Gallery. The net profits went towards the restoration of the Makarios Orphanage.

MAY 2010
- A stand at the State Fair exhibiting photographs and showing the Foundation’s latest documentary «A story to tell». Sale of calendars and handmade jewellery made by children of Kibera slum. All income went towards the restoration of the Makarios Orphanage.
- On 27 May in Makarios Avenue outside Debenhams Central a Festival of Joy was held under the auspices of Commissioner for the Rights of Children, Leda Koursoumba.. This included a photography exhibition on the pavements of Makarios Avenue, the sale of calendars and handmade jewellery made by children of Kibera slum and a concert by the music group Trimitonio and the African group of Silence. All income went towards the restoration of the Makarios Orphanage.

SEPTEMBER 2010
A charity party at the home of Ms Katia Theodotou in Limassol. All income went towards the restoration of the Makarios Orphanage.

DECEMBER 2010
- Photography exhibition «Just Care» Έκθεση φωτογραφίας "Just Care" by Marina Shacola and Andreas Vasiliou at the cultural centre of Polis Chrysochous. Sale of calendars and handmade jewellery made by children of Kibera slum. All income went towards the restoration of the Makarios Orphanage.
- Presentation of journalist Elita Michaelides’s book Utopia on Thursday 16 December. All income from the sale of the book went towards the restoration of the Makarios Orphanage.
- Bazaar at Shacolas «The Mall of Cyprus» in Nicosia and «Μy Mall» in Limassol (15/12/09 – 02/01/2010). Sale of calendars and handmade jewellery made by children of Kibera slum. - Bazaar with music (Lemythou Children’s Choir conducted by Costas Cacoyiannis, and the Fortissimo String Quartet from Thessaloniki) stilt walkers, reindeer and other surprises outside Debenhams Central in Makarios Avenue on 22 December Father Christmas accepted gifts for the children in Kenya.

FEBRUARY 2011
- Presentation of award by Cyprus University to Sophia Foundation for Children for its contribution to society and culture.
- 2 performance s of the music show entitled Stamatis Kraounakis « 55» one man show on 22 23 February 2011 at the Pallas theatre under the auspices of Nicosia Mayor, Eleni Mavrou. All income went towards the restoration of the Makarios Orphanage.

APRIL 2011
- Marathon on 11 April in Paris. Avril Conroy and her sister took part in the Marathon to raise money for the restoration of the Makarios Orphanage
- Concert entitled «Anna Vissy –Unplugged – For children’s right to dream» at Strovolos Municipal Theatre on 27 April. All income went towards the restoration of the Makarios Orphanage.

JUNE 2011
- A musical performance entitled Stamatis Kraounakis « 55» one man show on 27 Ιουνίου 2011 at the ancient theatre at Curium under the auspices of Limassol Mayor, Andreas Christou. All income went towards the restoration of the Makarios Orphanage.
- Fresh Target Theatre Ensemble gave just 4 performances (in Nicosia, Limassol and Larnaca) by internationally acclaimed British actor Pip Utton in his award-winning portrayal of ADOLF. Part of the income went to the Sophia Foundation for Children
- On 30 June, at the initiative of Marianna Kapnou students of Frederick University held a fashion show at STOA centre. All income went towards the restoration of the Makarios Orphanage.

JULY 2011
- Christening of Stephanos Pamborides, where instead of gifts, donations were made to the Sophia Foundation. In addition, little crocodile bracelets made by the children of the Kibera slum were given instead of christening favours. |
