Sophia Foundation for Children was established in 2008 by Cypriot volunteers with the aim of contributing to the fight against the suffering caused by poverty in developing countries, and particularly Africa.
The ‘Sophia’ was not established just to give an outlet to our charitable feelings. The foundation is a team effort aimed at actually doing something practical and tangible which will give a breath of life to children suffering from poverty and disease.
When we visited the Kibera slums in Kenya, we were faced with utter wretchedness. We saw helpless children dying alone and realised that if we acted in a concerted way we might be able to do something about this.
The ‘Sophia’ will not save the world, nor will it heal the open wound of Africa, but it can help to make things better, by saving the lives of children begging for help.
